High Hopes: Over 6,500 Signatures Push Ohio Closer to November Marijuana Ballot

August 03, 2023

Over 6,500 names have been given to officials to put the marijuana question on the November voting list. This is a big step towards letting people decide if they want marijuana to be allowed. A spokesperson named Tom Haren said, "We gave 6,545 names to the Ohio Secretary of State. We only needed 679 names, so this is great!" He thanked everyone who helped.

People in Ohio have been working hard to make it legal to use marijuana for fun. Last month, they gave over 220,000 names to the Ohio Secretary of State, but many were not accepted. They had issues like signatures not matching or people signing the wrong paper.

If the people vote yes, Ohio will be the 24th state to allow using marijuana for fun. People who are 21 or older could buy a bit of marijuana and even grow it at home. They would have to pay 10% tax for each thing they buy. It's going to be an interesting vote this fall!
